When an architect is designing a house, he or she knows that the fundamentally important thing is good foundations. Without good, strong foundations, the whole project could be in jeopardy, and any subsequent work that is done on the home may well be a waste of time. The same principle applies to makeup. You may have big plans for your flashy eye makeup – but if it is sat on top of a bare, flawed base, the whole look will appear mismatched and wrong. Of course, not every woman likes wearing makeup on her skin, and if you have naturally great skin, you may feel confident enough to go bare faced most days. But if you are planning a dramatic look in terms of your eyes or lips, having a beautifully airbrushed base can seal the whole look together. Not sure how to get such a flawless finish on your skin? Here are some tips that even makeup newbies can easily master.
Keep it clean
This might seem fundamental, but it is worth mentioning anyway. If you put fresh makeup on top of old makeup, you may end up with a patchy, pigmented look that almost makes you appear dirty. Of course, we have all been in scenarios where we have to simply top up last night’s makeup and roll with it (the annual office party springs to mind!). But unless you can’t avoid it, always start with a clean and fresh base. Pay close attention to how you remove your makeup, as there may be some residue left behind that you don’t even realize is there. Use a gentle cleanser or a micellar water over a wipe, as these penetrate much deeper into the skin and will unblock any dirt that still lingers in your pores.
Prime and moisturize
Once you are satisfied that your skin is clean, you will then need to prepare it for makeup. If you suffer from dry patches of skin, you may find that your foundation or concealer does not apply particularly smoothly. In this instance, priming your skin can make the world of difference to how your makeup ends up looking. Plenty of makeup lines, such as innisfree cosmetic products, offer a range of moisturizing and priming lotions that enable your foundation to glide on with ease. If you are self-conscious about any lines or wrinkles you may have, opt for one with a firming agent including, to help plump up your skin.
Invest in a great foundation
While it is true that you can get many good foundations on the high street for less than $20, if you really want to get the flawless look, you may want to look a little further afield. Many high-end makeup brands also offer a color match service, so you don’t need to fret about accidentally buying a shade that’s too light or dark for your skin. Look for liquid-based formulas, as they tend to give the best coverage, and if you’re concerned about looking too shiny afterwards simply lock it with a setting powder.
